My Story
Coy Poitier (/ˈpwɑːtieɪ/; born April 30th, 1972) is an American award-winning film director, consultant, musician, and master gardener.
In 2007 Coy moved to Dallas with his wife and children to assist in his mother’s church as Minister of Music and Christian Education Director.
In 2011 after graduating KD College, Coy became president of a digital-free broadcast TV station in Dallas, Texas and also began producing his award-winning documentary, “Cowboys of Color”.
In 2014 the film earned Best Short Documentary in the Roxbury International Film Festival, Best Short Documentary and Best Texas Film in the Texas Black Film Festival and was selected as ‘Community Showcase for the Dallas International Film Festival.’
The film is also in the Texas/Dallas Archives of the Dallas Public Library, Lancaster Texas Library, on display at the Texas Auxiliary Museum in Lancaster Texas.
Poitier is a graduate of the 2020 Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Master Gardener program and a member of the Dallas County Master Gardener Association.
He and his wife Katrina, manages a one acre urban farm which includes 60 plus fruit trees, a vegetable garden, an aquaponic system, and a 10 x 20 sq ft greenhouse. Also a 20 x 48 sq ft high tunnel will be completed in February. The farm and Pleasant Grove office is utilized to teach students about urban agriculture and growing their own healthy food.
Coy also serves on the Dallas County Historical Commission, the Baylor Scott & White- Resident Advisory Council, and the Dallas County Medical Reserves Corps. Former board member with South Dallas Fair Park Trust Fund Board, Lancaster Texas Parks and Recreation Board and Dallas C.E.R.T.
